5/2/2023 0 Comments Battery tray in wood runaboutMy only concern would be as to how well that area will hold up to having 140ish pounds of weight (132lbs of batteries and whatever the mounting weighs) added to it and its long term ability to withstand road vibration and impact shocks (pot holes, etc). I was having a hard time understanding where the batteries were so I took another look. I need to add a bit of split loom and possibly an inline fuse with a disconnect for diagnostic use.Įdited 12/13/08 09:15pm by an administrator/moderator * To remove the batteries, the angle unbolts, swings down and the batteries slide out. The 1 1/4" angle extends past and gets bolted at each end to some bolt tabs to keep them in place. ![]() They are then locked in with that piece of stainless continuous hinge I had laying around. The batteries are restrained from bouncing upwards by a length of angle welded at the back on top of them so they have to slide under is as you install them into the tray. Parallel the second set of batteries right onto the first set's terminals and it's good to go.īig plus is I already had the #2 on hand with terminals, swaging tool and adhesive lined heat shrink. Build a tray, hang it off the rear bumper, run a pair of #2 tinned copper marine grade conductors through the valve compartment, up under the shower, and into the back side of the battery compartment. Nor did I want to track down the lift gate plugs and deal with routing a lot of wire under the truck, up to the alternator/battery, and then into the camper. I also couldn't readily decide how I wanted to isolate them and charge them at the same time and then split them from the truck when the camper needed them. I thought about carrying them in the bed of the truck, but didn't want the wiring hassle, nor the complexity of elevating them above the curved section of the truck bed in order to tuck them next to the inner wall out of the way far enough when loading the camper. ![]() Someone asked to see the solution I was going to build to carry a pair of batteries in addition to the pair already in the TC.įirst a bit of logic as to why I picked the spot I did. ![]() RV.Net Open Roads Forum: Truck Campers: Under rear bumper battery tray Open Roads Forum
